Research and Advocacy

Research and Advocacy involves our continuous study of key education issues, our advocacy and support of policies that improve PreK-12 education, and the publication and dissemination of information that promotes meaningful reform. Milestones include:

  • Published "2011 Key Education Issues: Changing Louisiana's Future."
  • Published the Education Briefing Book as a primer on Pre-K education in Louisiana. The book provides a look at the past decade of education reform in Louisiana and looks at present and future perspectives on key education issues. The publication was recognized for its exemplary quality by Achieve Inc., a highly regarded education policy organization.
  • Published "Listening Sessions," a report of key concerns and suggestions expressed by Louisiana's school superintendents.
  • Named to the Louisiana team of the College and Career-Ready Policy Institute, an eight-state collaborative spearheaded by Achieve, Inc., the National Governors Association, and the Gates Foundation, designed to help states align accountability systems with college and career-ready policies, curriculum, and programs.
  • Launched two electronic newsletters, Promise Posting and BESE Brief.

Advocacy initiatives also include monitoring state policy and legislative proposals, and presenting pertinent information to state and district policymakers, lawmakers, the media, and other education reform organizations.
